A comprehensive assessment can help students with suspected or known learning difficulties as well as students that are highly capable learners.  All assessments are thorough, comprehensive, and tailored to the type of information you are seeking.   Although psycho-educational assessments are used within school systems to qualify a student for special education, they can also be used to understand an individual learning ability and optimize academic and social success. This information is incredibly helpful in decreasing frustration and increasing performance. The goal of the assessment is to help you strategize your student’s education and enrichment!

Cognitive Assessment

Boost Counseling and Assessment offers cognitive (IQ) testing to assess your child’s overall intellectual functioning. This can be helpful in identifying your child’s strengths and weaknesses and overall learning profile.  An assessment may also include processing assessment in the areas of memory, auditory processing, visual processing, and/or visual motor integration.

Academic Assessment

If your child is having academic difficulties at school and concerns have been raised around a possible learning disorder, we are able to offer thorough academic achievement assessments in the areas of reading, math, writing, spelling, listening comprehension, and oral language.  Through comprehensive and detailed academic assessment, specific skill deficits in the areas of reading, writing, and/or math can be identified to help inform supports and interventions for school, tutors, or enrichment.  The combination of cognitive and academic assessment can be used to identify dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia as well as other potential learning disorders.

Gifted Assessment

Gifted assessment includes intelligence testing through an IQ test that is typically administered in one session. However, gifted individuals can often experience a range of skill levels in different areas and are often faced with additional challenges such as  anxiety, perfectionism, depression, and feeling different from peers.  In addition, it is not uncommon for gifted individuals to experience under achievement and/or specific learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, in contrast to having extraordinary skills in their area(s) of giftedness. A comprehensive assessment may be considered to gain a specific understanding of the individual’s ability profile to better understand a gifted individuals areas of strengths as well as areas requiring additional support.

Behavior Assessment

A behavior assessment can be helpful in identifying your child’s strengths and weaknesses and overall behavior and/or personality profile. The behavior assessment evaluates symptoms of potential mental health conditions such as depression and/or anxiety; behavior disorders such as conduct disorder or oppositional defiant disorder; as well as ADHD, autism, and executive functioning disorders. Personality testing is available as well to help determine individual preferences for interactions as well as acquiring or communicating knowledge.
